If you live in the state of Georgia you may see the stickers on vehicle license plates that says In God We Trust. Owners who choose, can get these stickers from their local tag office and place them over the area on the license plate which reads the county name in which the vehicle is registered.
I recently stopped by the tag office and picked one up for the company car I drive. As I walked back to my car at the tag office a few thoughts came to mind.
First, I find it interesting that the state I live in offers these stickers (for FREE) and allows owners to place them on the plates over the county names. I wonder why and who makes these decisions? Don’t get me wrong, I love it! But, it causes me to think. If I still lived in California would this be an option. In fact, I wonder how many states offer this? I also wonder, why is it free? Not many things are free these days. Somebody somewhere initiated this program and I am grateful someone else hasn’t come along to have it discontinued.
Have you noticed these stickers on Georgia license plates? It’s surprising how many I see. This causes me to wonder about the fact that whomever has these stickers on the vehicles took the initiative to ask for the sticker, and place it on the plate, over the county name. What’s the motivation?
As a Christian man, it is interesting how many discussions I’ve had with fellow church members about placing Christian emblems on the back of our cars. I hear people say, “I’m not putting a fish on the back of my car!” They go on to explain that if they label themselves as a “religious” person then they might not feel comfortable communicating with other drives around them (if you know what I mean). I guess they want the freedom to keep their actions, while driving, to however non-Christian expression themselves.
So, why did I go to the tag office and get one of these stickers? And for my company car!? Well, I am incredibly fortunate (blessed) to work for a Christian family and business. I wanted to place this sticker on my tag to communicate this fact. Further, it is an expression that I (we, my company) are not ashamed to say “In God We Trust”.
This was my other thought as I walked back to my car. I thought, I’m about to place a sticker on my vehicle that says, In God We Trust, do I? I do. After 55 years of life, and many situations in which I did not know how things would turn out, I have come to believe with all my heart that I can trust God. I’ve had plenty and I’ve been without, and I do believe, He can be trusted. He has seen us through some difficult times including 8 months of unemployment, going broke, and loosing our home and He is faithful to provide, in His timing.
Today, 9 years later, He has delivered and we have recovered. I have the best job I’ve ever had, and again, it’s with a Christian family/company, we are homeowners again, and we are nearly in a better financial position than ever before. So yes, I trust God.
Do you trust Him? I hope you do. If you aren’t sure, please consider giving Him a chance to show you how trustworthy He is. Place your life in His hands. Begin to live by His principles and commands. If you’re not sure how to do that, I would love to talk to you about it. If not me, find a Christian friend or leader and begin the process.
